Elderly Man praticing karate outside studio
I stopped in a random parking lot to take a phone call, then saw this guy outside a karate studio in this strip center I guess going over his moves (looks like with an imaginary staff) for a test or something. I quickly hung up my call to record what I could grab because it was too good! ;)

Douglas Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto 1, end (1986)
Переглядів 17 тис.16 років тому
Douglas' gold-medal winning performance from the 1986 Tchaikovsky Competition. Too bad the conductor wasn't following worth a damn in spite of Douglas' obvious gestures. Would love to have seen more, but alas, that's all that was aired of his performance on this piece.

Natalia Trull plays the end of the Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 at the 1986 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. She went on to win 2nd place behind Barry Douglas. Note the accurate, as-written playing of the glissando-like passages.

Me, noodling for the camera, no special occasion, with Beethoven Piano Sonata Op 2, No 1 in F minor, 2nd mvmt. Sorry for a bit of rushing and the memory lapse after the recap, but otherwise, I'm happy with this performance.

I am excited (and kicking myself) because in my late thirties I have only just found out about the Three Choirs Festival of classical music. It lasts about a week and rotates each year between the cathedrals of Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester. Known as the oldest music festival in the world. My family is from Gloucestershire and Herefordshire and I have grown up in the Three Counties. Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Holst are all from this region. I am looking forward to attending the festival this year. Also, as I write this, I am lying on my bed only a few steps away from the top of the staircase from Elgar's house in Hereford, Plas Gwyn. The house was being gutted decades ago and my grandfather had the opportunity to buy the staircase rather than it be scrapped. He later installed it in a house he was building and put a plaque on the side of it explaining its significance. A couple of years ago, my sister and her partner were trying to find a name for their son. My sister's partner happened to be walking past the stairs one day, noticed the plaque and couldn't believe that they'd considered hundreds of names but not Edward. So anyway, my nephew is named Edward after you know who! They're expecting another boy. Maybe not Ralph!
Poor dude

Same thing happened to me when I was playing Fur Elise as an encore at the inaugural Chopin competition in Krakow 1970
Absolutely the most thought provoking music I have ever heard, when I was a child my dad played it on a 78 rpm record, good memories.
Loved the outakes in the credits😂😂
Probably the greatest music ever composed
I love the timpani! That’s my favorite instrument to play! I am a timpanist!
Nimrod gets me every time 😢
No me gusta como lo dirige Baremboin.
Flashbacks of performing this piece in high school 40 years ago! It has been one of my favorites ever since then! Thank heavens for UA-cam videos, which have allowed me to relive the memories by watching different groups perform!
He pinched from Beethoven’s Pathetique 2nd movement adagio - I’ve always heard it but only recently I’ve read that Elgar asked a friend Dora Penny if she could hear a similarity between the two at the beginning and she replied ‘ just a hint, not a quotation’. It’s definitely there. Anyone else hear it?
I think the radical left will actually agree with him on this issue. PR genius, make everyone think you're a standup comedian ... when really, we know what he was.
Some of the left, such as myself. I don't think it's the state's business to say what consenting adults can or can't do.

Yes, it's fast, yet full of sentiment. I hear hope, desire and worry. How could music be more beautiful?
Absolutely masterful playing of a truly wretched excuse for "music"....

Not forgotten
This performance and Berezovsky’s 2002 performance of Mazeppa are what, for me, transformed piano lessons into a lifelong obsession with classical music (back when I was 13). Will always come back to this video (still the non plus ultra for Islamey)!
At the scene by the train station Jack Elam was one of the 3 men Harmonica shoots in Once upon a time in the west.
My husbands favourite piece of music. It will be played at his funeral today.
😢😢
War is a consequence failure by two country’s or more to find a better outcome…I have watched many documentaries on WW1 and the slaughter of men was awful…it was three cousins in Britain,Germany and Russia all kings of those countries who thought it was for their king and country that was acceptable to let millions die..I lost a great grandfather who I never had the pleasure of meeting and a great grandmother who had to bring up the children with no help from the then government…it was a damned crime!!..
My dad was brought back from the absolute mayhem of the Dunkirk beach on one of the small boats and arrived back home two days before l was born .I cant begin to imagine how elated he must have been to have suvived such an experience. In june 1944 they sent him back to france to relive the horrific experience of war again. You would have t hought someone in power would say these Dunkirk veterans have had enough. Not a bit of it ......off you go lads have another go. In august ,44 I was on the roof of an air raid shelter when Isaw a young lad in a blue uniform arrive at my front door .He knocked on our door , the door opened the lad offered my mum a little slip of paper and then cycled off on his bike . I climbed down from the shelter wondering what that was all about. Every rememberance day I close my eyes and relive that experience whilst listening to the military band playing Nimrod . My dad is laid to rest in St. Charles de Percy military cemetery just outside Vire Normandy with hundreds of brave young men who never came back.
優れたピアニストは、この曲をただ難しい曲ではなく、魅力的な技巧と音で作られたものだと実感させてくれるようですね。素晴らしい!!
I'd trust him more than the CDC.
Does anyone know the name of the piece please?

A haunting melody, beautifully played.
Excellent. D...
I was brought up on this music, suffice to say that at 68 y/o this just gets me every time 😪😪....
I want this played at my funeral and also the theme from Schindler’s list.
Prayer, God and music, bring me to tears, very beautiful. Very comforting.
It’s stunning ❤

As a longtime orchestra player (31 years in this job) it is so nice to see a stick swinger who trusts his players enough to GET OUT OF THEIR WAY when he is not actually needed. Very understated yet very in control. Great job by all, as usual. This was early in Gene's career during the "feud" between him and Charlie. He was still playing one of the actual Yorks (before his Yamaha copy) and… wow. Just wow. I miss Jake every day; I miss those lessons and going to his concerts. I miss the drives out to Chicago. I miss going to Cubs or Bulls games after my lessons. I miss Mr. Herseth. I miss Mr. Kleinhammer. What a great group. I **really** like Gene, though; that man is absolutely tops. I miss living in New York way back in the 1980s and being a member of the Carnegie Hall Association (donating money to the restoration work being done at that time). I got many free tickets to see some of the best ensembles in the world. Wow, somewhere along the way I became old. WTF…?
England ❤❤❤❤
So beautiful typically English i think of the guys who died fighting for their beloved England they will never be forgotten God bless them all
При всем уважении к Барри Дугласу, вот кому надо было отдавать Гран-при на том конкурсе.
Incredible composition, incredible musicians, incredible conducting! Makes for a moment of pure magic and beauty. Absolutely amazing performance! This is the version I always listen to. Thank you!
